review of Philadelphia Doctorate Tapes Thanks for giving me the opportunity to listen to the PDC tapes. I was planning to do a summary of each tape, but they are so ridiculous that I decided it was a waste of time. So instead I'll just give a summary of the first batch I got (16 tapes) along with reference to a few juicy parts. The applause at the beginning and end of each tape is canned. Other than that, each tape is just a straightforward lecture by Hubbard. The main topic, as far as I can decipher, of all the tapes has been the fact that 1) we (meaning our souls, or thetans) are not actually a part of this (MEST) universe, it is only an agreed upon world by thetans, whereby the natural laws only work because we all agree that they work, 2) we can literally create our own universe, and 3) we can learn to create our own universe by learning to manipulate this universe, such as defying the natural laws (being able to see through clothing or curtains, leaving the body and travelling to other cities, etc). Thus, mocking things up is the main method of practicing and learning how to do this. For example, the auditor might have you mock up (i.e. think of in your head) a house. Now make it green. Now turn it 180 degrees on its foundation. Now send it back in time 100 years. Now make it explode. Now bring it back together. Etc., etc. The only tape I would suggest you listen to is #3, in which I have set it to the place to start listening on side 2. This will show you an example of Hubbard auditing someone on the above method, but with the most vile mockups imagineable. The point, apparently, is that it doesn't matter so much what to mock up as it does that you mock up. If you have a sadistic auditor, it might make for a strange session. Now, some notes I took from the tapes. Tape 1 begins with Hubbard jokingly calling himself the Prince of Darkness. This is interesting because Hubbard Jr. says somewhere that his dad was reading Aleister Crowley at this time. Also says 50% of population can become "theta clear" in 15 minutes. The others take a much longer time. Tape 2 is about the E-meter. This registers the density of the PC (pre-clear). Of importance to doctrinal discussion, he says the body is the reactive mind. Tape 3 is the E-meter demo you should listen to. Also toward the end of this tape he says the god of this universe was a "usurper" and a bad guy (see p. 44 of text). There is some indirect mention here of stuff in OTIII. Tape 4 is a good example of the rambling style of Hubbard. After one hour of talking, he didn't say anything. Tape 5 has the clearest talk about how we can manipulate this universe, for instance by making it warmer, less dusty, etc. to suit our fancy. It's been around a long time. It strikes me when listening to Hubbard that he never DEMONSTRATES any of this. Tape 6 says that the MEST universe is the inner universe of another universe, which is an inner universe to another universe. I don't know the value in that, but at least you didn't have to listen to the whole thing! Tape 7 - "Automaticity is simply making things stick, making things automatic, making things so you don't have to watch them all the time. That's the lazy man's way of doing it." This is a nice statement because Hubbard claims in Dianetics that there is no such thing as conditioning, yet here is a statement about conditioning! He's usually pretty good about not contradicting himself. Tape 8 says a thetan can get out of a younger body better than an older body. This implies that the older you are the harder it is to audit. "There are gods and makers of gods, and this is a minor universe." Tape 9 - forget it. Tape 10 - Helping the poor actually hurts them, since you are taking away their self-respect. The way to really help them is to "theta clear them in a hell of a hurry." Tape 11 "It would do an awful lot if you had 3 frames of reference, if you had 3 frames of reference... you can orient yourself, but don't...think you have something thorough if you merely have 3 things defined in terms of the other 2." I think this is actually good advice, and Scientologists should use it to look at Hubbard's ideas from the view of a Scientologist, a skeptic, and a critic. Tape 14 "The mostest god you'll ever know is you, in this universe." "Christianity is based upon the writings of Plato." "Don't ever treat psychotics." And General Semantics is a failure. Those are my notes. I know there are people who listen to this and think Hubbard is a genius, but I think he was winging it the whole way, rambling and repeating himself. He could have condensed these 16 hours into 1 easily. 2ND SET 2/92 #20 SIDE A NEAR FRONT scientology can be a control mechanism. this whole side is good, tallking about Black Dianetics. Hubbard says this should never be used, but then he goes on and on about how to use it. #21 LRH says he wrote under the pen name Ira Wallace. I've seen something under this name. #24 side 1 good story about a monastary with a mystery in it, that was destroyed when the mystery was shown to be non-existant. LRH also explains how you can take over someone's soul and command it to take over another person to do your bidding. [did he get this from Crowley?] #27 "I realize that our survival depends completely on getting the medical profession and psychiatry to agree with us." (side 1 first half) between lives implants mentioned after this. Stuck visios, shows that you're stuck in "a between lives wipeout". As an example, a preclear remembers a time when he was in a Space Academy 1 million years ago. #37 LRH says he was kicked out of college says you should rely on mockups more than on the MEST universe. Says his sci-fi was non-fiction below are from "Universes and the Battle between Theta and Mest" series. "Universe: Basic Definitions" - he rails against psychiatry - says he's arrogant but he decided he lives among stupid people because psychiatrists know nothing of the mind and hypnotists know nothing of hypnotism.
